Law enforcement officers across the U.S. have responded to Quentin Tarantino’s condemnation of police shootings by announcing a boycott of his newest movie and subjecting him to veiled threats. Predictably, Gov. Chris Christie, the former federal prosecutor and soon-to-be-former candidate for President, seized the opportunity to score points with the GOP’s law-and-order members by siding with the police. But the law enforcement community misplayed its hand, and Gov. Christie did too. Law-and-order types would be smarter to admit that Tarantino is right and join his call for a national conversation on policing.
